ALOHA MIXED PLATE Aloha Mixed Plate Chow Mein

ALOHA MIXED PLATE | Chow Mein Noodles Recipe

Aloha Mixed Plate is the place to go for the local favorite: the plate lunch.  Legend has it, the plate lunch evolved in the Plantation days, when workers from different backgrounds would gather together for the mid-day meal.  Hawaiian, Korean, Japanese, and Filipino foods were soon shared, along with the mealtime staple, rice, and a new island cuisine was born.

In addition to great local dishes like Kalbi Ribs, Chow Funn, and Coconut Prawns, Aloha Mixed Plate enjoys one of Front Street's best settings.  Located oceanfront in downtown Lahaina, the casual, relaxed atmosphere is accented by a large lanai and shade umbrellas.  Year after year, this unpretentious spot has won awards and accolades from Maui residents, including Best Teriyaki Chicken, the Cheap Food Award, the Most "Maui"-est Restaurant, Best Plate Lunch, and Best Place to Eat in a Bathing Suit.

Chef Seldon Simeon, who started with Aloha Mixed Plate, before rising to fame on Top Chef, shares the recipe for one of their most popular dishes, Chow Mein.  Literally the translation for fried noodles, in Chow Mein, the noodle is the key.  Aloha Mixed Plate's home made noodles are incredible, but for this recipe, you can find chow mein noodles at the local grocery store.
